The Final Shooting Day
Hardware

On the final shooting day, we brought all the equipments we need to the Tulleys Farm. We planned to shot in the junkyard first. We opened the legs of Vinten tripod and twist the control pole up. Then we could extend the height of the tripod by opening all three of the latches. We opened the bottom ones first. We stepped our foot on the bottom so the tripod won’t fall. Because of the ground wasn’t flat, the three legs might in different height so it can be balanced. Then we placed the camera on the top, we used Black Magic 4K Mini URSA. We need to hold the two buttons on the side so the camera can slide on. Before putting the battery on, we checked the spirit level which can help us to determine the horizontal and vertical directions. We need to move the small bubble to center. So then we could open the camera, the camera has the Lear Pro memory card.
To recording the sounds, we plugged in the Sennheiser Shotgun Mic to the camera and put on headphones. We confirmed the position of the camera and zoom in to focus on the actor. We could twist the ring to adjust the lens. The ring that close to us is to focus and the ring furtherest away is to zoom in and out. Also, because we were shooting outside, we changed the white balancing to the right number. We did many different angles shots so we moved the tripod with the camera several times. We remembered to check the height of the camera before rolling the camera, the camera should be in the same height as the object. In addition, we checked the 180 degree rule carefully. Furthermore, we took some extra establishing shots of the location. We use the central pole to move the camera, and shot in tilt and pan. We held the handle and move the camera up and down, left and right.

After this location, we went to a car garage. In this location, we decided not put the camera onto the tripod, we tried to shot in handheld movement. One of us hold the camera and move with the actor to do a tracking shot, another people need to hold the microphone and help to guide the camera operator. We turned the screen on the camera up so we can see the frame while shooting. When we were shooting inside, the natural light isn’t enough to see the facial expression. So we put a Titan light in front of the actor, the lighting is close to the natural light colour. Apart from these filming equipment, we also brought iPad for checking the shot list and the storyboard. And iPhones to take the behind the scene pictures and videos.
Finally, after we have shot every shots on the shot list, we packed up all the equipments. We unplugged the microphone and the headphone. Then we turn off the camera and remove the battery. Next we held the camera to slide it out and put it back to the box. And we twisted the central pole off from the tripod. Lastly, we open the latches and retract the legs to the lowest height and close it.

– On the shooting day, we bring the storyboard, the shot list with us to Tulleys Farm. The storyboard can help the director to know the outline of the visual idea, so it is easier to decide the camera compositions and angles on set. The shot list helps us to check we have done every shot, so we won’t accidentally missed one shot.
